Our Story

It started with a bag of photos.

Scan My Memories began the way a lot of photo projects do: with a family, a move, and a lifetime of memories nobody had looked at in years.

When my parents decided to downsize, I helped clean out their house. Tucked away, I found a bag stuffed with photographs: years of birthdays, holidays, and faces I hadn't seen in decades.

Some had water damage. Most had survived. All of them were one leaky basement or one more move away from being lost for good.

When I saw those photos, I knew I had to save them. I just didn't know how hard that would be.

What I tried first

Every option fell short.

1

Phone scanning apps

I tested a few. Every photo was a fight with glare, shadows, and crooked angles, and the results weren't something I'd want to keep forever.

2

Scanning services

Mail-in services charge by the photo. For a whole bag of memories, the quotes added up fast.

3

Doing it myself

Scanning one photo at a time was far too slow, and the scanners built for large photo collections are expensive.

So I did the research and invested in a professional-grade photo scanner built for prints. I scanned the whole bag, water-damaged survivors and all, and for the first time in years our family could actually see those photos again.

When I finished, I kept thinking: there must be so many people like me, with a bag, a box, or an attic full of photos and no good way to save them.

That's why I started Scan My Memories.

Why flat-rate pricing

What scanning 1,000 photos costs

I built Scan My Memories around the price I wished I'd found: one flat rate, with shipping both ways and a USB flash drive included. Here's how it compares with two U.S. mail-in services I looked at, even at their sale prices.

Scan My Memories $210
1,000-photo plan. 3-way shipping, USB flash drive, and 7-day cloud link included.
Mail-in service A $490
$0.49 per photo at 600 DPI, its online-order price. $620 at its everyday price of $0.62.
Mail-in service B $505
$0.49 per photo with a 50%-off code, plus a $14.99 shipping kit. About $1,020 at regular prices.

Competitor prices are taken from their public websites on October 1, 2026, for scanning 1,000 loose photos, and may have changed since. Optional extras such as enhancement are not included.
